Plastics edge finisher groove marks

Lasers and edge finshers do a lot of good work in the plastics industry, but the edges often have quality defects. Tiny diamonds, mounted to an edge finisher cutterhead spinning very rapidly, are expensive to maintain, and sharpen.

Productivity is much greater than polishing acrylic by hand, but there is a slight quality loss.
Scraping, sanding, buffing or flame polishing of acrylic sheets is eliminated with one pass on an edge finisher. The close up picture below of 1.25" thick bullet resistant acrylic sheet has been edge finished.

Grooves that follow the radius of the cutterhead.

Notice the arc of fine groove marks, like a phonogragh record. They are almost always present, to some degree. Manual polishing with a cotton buffing wheel, has much less obvious sanding swirl marks, that almost totally disappear with good buffing.
