Solvent polishing of a blind hole in clear acrylic sheet

The following animated gif demonstrates the vapor polishing process of a hole with only one opening. Weldon 4 (acrylic glue) is basically methylene chloride. This paint thinner type solvent is left in the hole for approximately one minute. Then, draw back out the fluid with a syringe. Use adequate ventilation. The finish isn't perfect, but it "wets down" and clarifies most of the white machine (drill) marks. Some future chemical stress crazing may occur, based on how much heat was generated drilling the hole.

The drill hole is 1/4" diameter, and the material is 1.25" thick.

Below is a 2 inch thick acrylic base for a welding rod centerpiece.
A 3/4" hole was drilled and "polished" using this technique.
